OTTAWA'S LEES AVENUE UNDERPASS

 

Widening any highway is a planning challenge, especially when the highway is as busy as Highway 417 in Ottawa, Ontario. The Lees Avenue Overpass, an 86.8-metre span bridge that weighed 2,100 tonnes, is the heaviest bridge to be erected by rapid replacement over a North American highway. Central Welding & Iron Works was awarded the contract to fabricate the bridge.
